THE LEGEND OF RAOUL WALLENBERG

The Power of a Single Voice

Armed only with courage, imagination and relentless determination, how was a man able to rescue over 100,000 from senseless slaughter?

Born in Stockholm in 1912, Raoul Wallenberg was a member of one of Sweden's most prominent Lutheran families. At the age of 32, this businessman and world traveler volunteered to leave the safety of his neutral homeland to enter Hungary in July of 1944. During the six months which followed, he is credited with leading the rescue of 100,000 innocent Jews from certain death.

It was not simply Raoul Wallenberg's leadership which resulted in his daring feat, but his great courage, compassion for his fellow man, and his vision of a better future for the young people of his day.

Today, the spirit of Raoul Wallenberg lives on through this Foundation which bears his name. We recognize the extraordinary acts of young people who hold the vision of a better world.
